Gameplay

Pandora’s Legacy contains 17 boxes. Box Alpha contains the pieces of the main section of the jigsaw. Once you have assembled that, you receive clues for solving the first puzzle hidden within the jigsaw via a companion website. This site is your guide throughout the adventure, revealing story elements, clues, and hints if you get stuck. Many of these puzzles-within-the-puzzle lead to specific jigsaw pieces, each with a unique number printed on the back. Unearth the right piece, type in the number, and you receive your next clue. Throughout the game, you unlock the realms of four Olympians, each of which is visually distinct and has puzzles thematically related to those gods.

In order to not detract from the cohesive illustration of the jigsaw by superimposing numbers, letters, and symbols onto it, the puzzle elements of this game are seamlessly integrated into the visuals or hidden in other ways. Not only that, but eagle-eyed fans of Greek mythology can find dozens of familiar human, creature, Olympian, and demigod characters throughout the illustration.

The Story

Pandora’s story usually ends when she opens the box, but that event is where Pandora’s Legacy begins. In this adventure, Pandora does not just accept her fate—she is determined to set things right. You play as Pandora, and, with the help (and hindrance) of your favorite Olympians, your mission is to corral the chaos you created.

Created in collaboration with TED-Ed, Pandora’s Legacy is an innovative gaming experience that combines elements of jigsaw puzzles, escape rooms, puzzle hunts, and legacy board games. Assembling the jigsaw is only the beginning—to unlock the rest of the pieces you will need to solve a variety of puzzles of different styles. Some solutions reward you with gorgeous and perplexing physical artifacts that are themselves puzzles that must be solved. Others unlock the next set of jigsaw pieces that expand the illustration and propel the narrative forward.
