Gameplay
Along with the tarot deck, you receive a booklet filled with your missing friend’s memories. As you solve puzzles, you unlock memories in the booklet, revealing story passages that further the narrative and your understanding of your friend. There is no set way to work through the cards, which means different players unlock memories in different orders. Additionally, each puzzle in the deck solves to multiple solutions, and the answer you arrive at dictates what memory you unlock. This non-linear structure gives the game the feeling of a choose-your-own-adventure book, where every group goes on their own journey based on the choices they make.
The Story
In this narrative puzzle adventure by PostCurious and Jack Fallows, an intimate coming-of-age story is told through a tarot deck that simultaneously serves as a puzzle game and a work of art. Manipulate the cards, find hidden messages, and solve logic and word problems in order to uncover the deck’s secrets. The 22 Major Arcana cards each contain a puzzle, and you use cards from the other four suits in the deck (the Minor Arcana) in order to solve it. Minor Arcana cards are used multiple times in conjunction with each other, and each time you think you have unlocked a card, you’re challenged to look at it in a new way. Packed with gorgeous illustrations, resonant storytelling, and unique puzzles, The Light in the Mist can be played solo or cooperatively in a small group.

Do you have what it takes to overcome the challenges thrown your way without getting lost in the mist?

With over five hours of gameplay, the intricate story and varied puzzle difficulty of The Light in the Mist challenges and engages fans of escape rooms, board games, and interactive fiction of all experience levels. If a puzzle gives you difficulty, there is a detailed online hint system where each puzzle is broken into steps to give you a nudge in the right direction before revealing the answer. The game can be completed over multiple sessions, giving it the flexibility to match your style of play. Additionally, the game is resettable, so, once you have your own experience, you can pass it on to someone else.
