Misc. Holiday Puzzles
Each solves to a word or a phrase.
Valentine's Day 2024 (Truffles)
. Re-read the text of the clue. What do you think it means to “compound” the love?
. The color and shapes of the chocolates aren’t relevant—just focus on the icons.
. It may help to screenshot or download the picture so you can draw on it.
. You need to connect chocolates to form compound words or phrases. For instance, the ham and burger truffles connect to form the word hamburger. What other matches can you find?
When you draw lines between the chocolate pairs, what do you notice about the lines?
Puzzle Fall Fest 2022 (Story Time at the Nature Pavilion)
. Examine the shapes of the leaves. Are there any words in the poem that evoke their shapes?
. There is one leaf to be chosen per line. The first line mentions five fingers—can you figure out which leaf this is referring to?
. The first line is referring to the leaf in the top left with the F. Continue down the poem and find all the shapes. Note that some may repeat, and not all leaves will be used.
Halloween 2021 (Ghosts)
. Start by examining the faces of the ghost and their speech bubbles. Do you notice anything?
. The two ghosts saying PAR and TAP both have the same shape in their right eye (from the viewer’s perspective). What do you think that means?
. The TAP and PAR ghosts also both have an upside-down triangle in their face, but unlike the eye, it’s in a different position. How do the shapes relate to the letters?
. TAP and PAR both have an A in the second position, so the down-facing moon shape represents an A, and the right eye represents the second position.
. The upside-down triangle represents P, with the left eye representing the first position and the mouth representing the third position.
. Solve the other shapes using the same logic, then translate the faces of the four ghosts on the bottom to get the solution.
. The other letters translate as follows: half-circle=T, smile=R, right-side up triangle=S, x=K, vertical line=L, circle=O, horizontal line=C, upside-down u=U
. The 3 ornaments around the deer’s neck will be your guide for how to translate the rest of the ornaments, which will spell out the answer.
. Look at the 3 ornaments on the deer’s neck and consider how they might relate to the letters above the antlers.
. Can you discern any logic as to how the patterns are placed? Ignore the colors and focus on the shapes and placement.
. Consider the antlers to be like paths that force you to make choices of left, right, and center. How could that correspond to the patterns?
. To get to the letter C, one needs to go the LEFT antler and then go LEFT and finally RIGHT. The pattern is zigzag, zigzag, line. How do those things correlate?
. Reaching M would require going RIGHT, CENTER, LEFT, and the pattern is line, dots, zigzag.
. Decipher the other letters by using the same pattern logic of zigzag=LEFT, dots=CENTER and line=RIGHT and then read the solution in two rows from left to right.
